The Elements of Fun -- Air

In preparation for our AIR activities, Scott planned a hobby time for all the men. They each constructed a model rocket. Scott received an Honest John rocket for his birthday, one of his favorite models from his youth.

The boys all worked diligently on their rockets, each hoping theirs would have a successful flight.

Although a skilled engineer, Jim wasn't certain how to build a rocket without robotic intervention.

Richie was pretty pleased with his model, which he painted to match his shirt, and his eyes.

The finished rockets were indeed masterpieces of engineering.

Gavin assisted in each launch by counting down from 10 to 0, and then shouting "blast off!" One rocket landed too far away to track, one landed in the neighbors yard and wasn't retrieved (due to the presence of Buttercup, their pit bull), and another landed a block away in our neighbor's pool--but since Richie was determined NOT to lose it, he sprinted down the road, through the electric fence, past the German Shepherd and into the pool to rescue his craft.

Air activities also included a little Ultimate Frisbee and football.

It was great to enjoy the peace and beauty of our home and family!
